Will Ferrell (yes, the comedian) has launched a YouTube competitor site called FunnyOrDie. This is the ‘launch clip’ from the site - a quick sketch featuring Ferrell.

Watch it now, I command you. One thing they’re going to have to fix is the embedded player (it should NOT autostart) so I haven’t embedded it here.

There has been some outrage at the dialogue but I bet you laughed at least once - and not at any of the actors aged more than three years old.

Just when you may start thinking that ethanol might be a nice stepping stone between petrol and hydrogen, you see a study like this.

WASHINGTON — Switching from gasoline to ethanol — touted as a green alternative at the pump — may create dirtier air, causing slightly more smog-related deaths, a new study says.

Nearly 200 more people would die yearly from respiratory problems if all vehicles in the United States ran on a mostly ethanol fuel blend by 2020, the research concludes. Of course, the study author acknowledges that such a quick and monumental shift to plant-based fuels is next to impossible.

So you’ve heard of a French kiss and maybe a Glasgow kiss, but this one is new to me.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - An Israeli woman accidentally bit off part of her boyfriend’s tongue during a heated French kiss, an Israeli hospital that reattached the tongue said Thursday.

Must have been quite a pash.

I think this can probably go down in the ‘whoops’ file.

A Pennsylvania student was held in jail for 12 days after a bomb threat recorded by a school hot line service was wrongly attributed to him, Fox News reports.

Fifteen-year-old Cody Webb, of Greensburg, “called a school district hot line to listen to a recorded message about school delays at 3:12am EDT on 11 March”, his mobile phone records later revealed. The next morning, school officials discovered said bomb threat logged at 3:17am.

In fact, because the school had not reset the clock on the hot line, which continued to show Eastern Standard Time, officials and police failed to spot that the bomb threat had actually come in at 4:17am - more than an hour after Webb’s innocent call.

You may or may not have noticed the ‘Random Quote’ part of the sidebar to your left. I’ve been procrastinating from doing real work and added about 100 quotes to the database. A new random quote should appear on every page (or if you refresh your current page).

More quotes will be added the next time I get really bored.

Clocky is an alarm clock on wheels. When the alarm goes off the clock jumps off your bedside table so you actually have to get out of bed to find it and turn it off. It was prototyped a while ago but now you can actually buy it.

A video of it in action.

Need to procrastinate? Famousr is your answer!
There’s three modes. The first (default) mode is to guess which of two given celebrities is ‘more famous’. The definition of ‘more famous’ is based on the user’s rankings - so obviously if you’re incorrect today it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll be incorrect in a month’s time. The second mode allows you to put in the name of two actors and the site will tell you who is more famous (apparently Mary-Kate is more famous than Ashley Olsen). The last is my favourite - Who’s “That Guy”? shows you a grab of an actor (usually not very famous) and a list of movies and you have to pick which was their biggest one.

Great site to waste some time on.
